POLE DANCING FAQS

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Ideally you need bare legs and a vest-style top, so shorts and bare feet are what most people wear for class.  Ballet shoes are very comfortable as an alternative to bare feet, but by no means necessary.  In particularly cold weather, we recommend wearing tracksuit bottoms or leggings to warm up in, but try to bring shorts as well as some moves require them.

Do I HAVE to wear shorts?

Bare skin sticks to the pole, which means you can climb, sit, and eventually hang upside-down from the pole by your legs.   If your legs are covered in trousers you will just slip off the pole every time you try to climb up.  If you really don't want to wear shorts on your first go, the very basic moves can be done in trousers, but if you want to progress beyond basics you will need to get some shorts eventually.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULDN'T WEAR?

Yes!  Please do NOT wear handcream or bodylotion on the day of your pole class, it makes you and the poles slimy and everything you do will be difficult, if not impossible!  Also please do not wear any rings, wristwatches or bracelets as they scratch the poles and can actually cut your hands too.

I'M A BEGINNER!  WHICH CLASS SHOULD I START IN?

As a beginner you are welcome in ANY of the classes.  Mixed level lessons are just that, they're for beginners, intermediate and advanced.  Beginners will be learning basic moves on their poles, while more advanced poledancers will be working at their level on their poles.  Everyone works at their own pace.

Beginners classes are ONLY for beginners though, as some people prefer to start in a group where everyone is at the same level, working on the same moves together.  You will only want to do the beginner class for a few weeks as they are very basic, but they do give a little head start if you feel you need it before joining a mixed level class.

It is totally up to you how and when you get started!
